UAE equities seen steady as investors stay cautious |
DUBAI — UAE stocks are expected to maintain a steady trend this week, with investors seeking trading clues from corporate results from blue
chip companies. Full-year and fourth-quarter results of Emirates NBD, Dubai Islamic Bank, Emaar and du may set off rallies depending on the strength of their earnings. Property, banking and insurance sectors will be in focus during the week and investors will have a close eye on major listed companies in those areas. Analysts said any rally will however be short-lived as the markets are seen in a long-term downtrend amid a lack of positive news on the domestic front. Poor corporate results in the fourth quarter may halt last week’s rally and reverse the course in due time because investors are not willing to cash in on the low price opportunities in
key sectors. The Dubai Financial Market’s General Index is likely to trade in tight range this week and may test key levels either on upside or downside, while Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange’s main index likely to sustain the 2,700 level in the wake of recovery in banking sector last week. | |

Pakistan would soon start halal meat export to Malaysia, and in this regard negotiations with Kuala Lumpur were in advanced stages.
“Pakistan is awaiting Malaysian response”, well-placed sources in the Ministry of Livestock and Dairy Development told The News on Tuesday. It is interesting to note that the Malaysian government is importing two-third of its meat from India. Sources said Malaysia could import at least 60,000 tons of meat from Pakistan if it chooses to do so. “We have provided information about the livestock, veterinary and other details to the Malaysian government. After evaluation, it would authorize export of halal meat form the private sector in Pakistan,” sources said. Officials said Pakistan was already exporting meat to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other gulf countries. During 2008-09, Pakistan exported 23,855 tons of meet worth $74.4 million. It also exported 94,000 animals to Afghanistan that amounted to $12.35 million. During the same period meat production stood at 2.2 million tons. The export is about 1.8 per cent of the total production. In November 2007, Pakistan and Malaysia signed a free trade pact in Kuala Lumpur which was the first bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) between members of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). |

The store owned by Gambian immigrant Lamin Jobarteh stocks the essential culinary items required by Anchorage's 4,000 Muslims. Earlier Muslim families used to order bulk shipments of Halal meat and groceries from Seattle and Vancouver which are the nearest cities to Anchorage. Now Jaborteh gets his slaughtering done at Matanuska-Sustina Borough slaughterhouse. The former banker says he has learned new skills for his profession including preparing custom orders of meat. The World's First "Halal" Search Engine Designed for Muslims Goes Live |
As of today, Muslims from all over the world can search the World Wide Web safely without coming across content that might be considered "Haram" according to the Islamic Law. The search engine, ImHalal.com (http://www.imhalal.com/ ), only fetches results that are flagged as to be "Halal". The search engine uses various techniques to determine which results fetched are supposed to be "Halal" or "Haram". Once a user comes in contact with content of explicit nature, the search engine will return a negative search advice. The last few years Muslims have become very active on the Internet. The lack of tools for Muslims to be able to continue their online activities responsibly has inspired ImHalal.com to enter the search engine market. The site offers a broad range of functions that are developed specifically to increase the users search experience. The Indonesian Council of Ulema plans to Regulate Indonesia's Halal Imports |
The country’s highest authority on Islamic affairs, the Indonesian Council of Ulema, is planning to insist that all imported food labeled as halal obtain the council’s own halal certification before it can be sold here. The council’s Food, Drugs and Cosmetic Assessment Institute is the sole issuer of halal certificates for such goods. Locally produced goods are not required to have a certificate. Ma’ruf Amin, one of the chairmen of the council, known as the MUI, said many products imported from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and some European countries carried halal labels but that the MUI did not always trust their certification standards. |
